Matthew does get to eventually train with Prescott and the Agronauts (the best of the best incubi fighters who work for the High King), but that’s only a slight reprieve from the hell they put Matthew through. It is awful and lasts a good half of the book. And whatever he suffered under Tarrick is nothing compared to what the High King Malarath and his second, Prescott, put Matthew through.
It’s awful to see Matthew live so freely in Sire, only to be brought back into captivity once more in Broken. If you thought Captive was bad, the content in this was way worse.Ĭonent notes include rape on-the-page, torture, violence, sexual assault, incest, forced apadravya (genital piercing), depression, and I don’t know how to describe this but sexual scenes involving 200-something-year-old vampires who still look like they’re in their pre-teens. This book started off cruel and disturbing and utterly heartbreaking. I’m not sure it makes up for the first half of this book though. The last 10-15% of this book was AMAZING. All Matthew needs to do is start acting like an incubus and put on a show.Īuthor’s note: This book contains dark scenes. While all trust Matthew had in the general is gone, maybe there is hope in the situation. The High King, angered that his pet is dying, brings in the one person who might be able to fix Matthew: High Lord General Tarrick. And, in his despair, his body begins to decay around him.
